In this panoramic view of Boston Avenue in 1910 or 1911, you can see the Pioneer Telephone Company building in the right foreground at 4th and Boston, the Mayo Building in the background, left of the Pioneer building, the new County Courthouse under construction to the left of the Mayo Building, and the Methodist Episcopal Church South in the left foreground at 5th and Boston. This picture is taken from the roof of the original Tulsa High School.
Five stories tall, the Mayo Building was built in a residential area south of downtown, to house the Mayo Furniture store on the first three floors and offices for a number of growing oil companies above. In 1914, the building doubled in size when a new wing was added on the north side. Three years later the building doubled in size again by adding five more floors.
